7/22/16 Contest update
This week it’s Berlin! A wonderful multicultural city I visited with my wife in 2014. Will the senseless killings put Trump in the White House? Perish the thought!
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -26.02% YTD (vs. down -27.08% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -17.03% YTD (vs. down -19.48% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -15.62% YTD (vs. down -18.58% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) continued in the green, up 1.85% YTD (vs. up .44% YTD a week ago).
MASTER’s portfolio, up 12.45% YTD, held on to first place, with DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 10.98% YTD, still in second place. GENE’s portfolio, boosted by the RLYP buyout, moved into third place with a 4.25% YTD gain.
At Friday’s close, 55 of the 58 Contest portfolios remained in the red, with just 13 still beating the NBI and a mere 9 still beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -20.24% and a median YTD loss of -23.88%, with 48 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Not only are the overall Contest performance numbers terrible this year but the portfolios of some of the best performers in prior Contests are among the worst performers this year. Any thoughts on why that’s the case are welcome.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe weekend biotechies.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
