Vladimir Putin is one of Donald Trump’s favorite dictators. His politics — mean, xenophobic, nationalistic and extreme — are a lot like Trump’s.

Trump even talks like Putin at times, only with a better American accent. He’s adopted lock, stock and barrel the hoary Kremlin propaganda line that the United States is in no position to talk about human rights in other countries because it has its own human rights problems.

And just the other day, Trump gave Putin something he’s been craving since the collapse of the Soviet empire: an all-but-open invitation to take back those uppity former enslaved provinces, like Ukraine and the Baltic States, that have been acting like free nations for the last quarter-century.
