Yep. He found out that his constituency didn't agree. So he dropped the "Americans make too much" to "fighting for the middle class". Which is why he supports such things as Social Security and universal healthcare.

Much to the shock of Republican stalwarts, their base is not committed to things like small government, killing unions, eliminating the minimum wage or Social Security or a whole host of conservative ideals. They are against "Obamacare" in general, but really like something very much like it. So changing the name is probably enough.

In other words, the Republican base is really center left as polls have established a long time ago. It is just the social wars that keeps them voting against their economic interests. Which bodes ill for the Republicans regardless of what happens in this elections.

If the Democrats can come up with a modern Huey P. Long with a focus on inequality, he can likely win an election in a landslide.
