TECHNOLOGY ISSUES AMONG BIG STOCK MOVERS IN LIGHT TRADING

New York-Dec. 31-FWN/UPI--TECHNOLOGY ISSUES ARE AMONG the big movers in light trading today as the market prepares to ring out 1997.

Republic Industries Inc. is pacing the Big Board actives, up 2 1/4 to 23 3/16.

Compaq Computer Corp. follows, up 1 3/8 to 56 1/8.

EMC Corp. is third, ahead 1 3/16 to 27 13/16.

Among other technology issues, Dow components IBM Corp. is up 1 3/4 to 104 7/8 and Hewlett-Packard Co. is ahead 3/4 to 62 5/16.

Texas Instruments Inc. is up 1 5/8 to 45 3/4, Micron Technology Inc. is ahead 5/8 to 26 3/16 and Motorola Inc. is ahead 5/8 to 57 3/4.

Elsewhere on the NYSE, CompUSA Inc. is up 2 1/4 to 31 7/8 after announcing its sales in fiscal second quarter jumped 22% to a record $1.46 billion from $1.20 billion during the same period last year.

Ascend Communications Inc. is leading the Nasdaq actives, up 1 to 25.

Intel Corp. is next, off 1/2 to 71 3/16.

Cisco Systems Inc. is third, ahead 3/16 to 56 9/16.

Microsoft Corp. is ahead 5/8 to 130 7/8 after a federal appeals court granted the software giant late Tuesday an expedited hearing on its bid to overturn a court order forcing Microsoft to sell its Windows operating system and Internet browser product separately.
