I always believed that you should be able to vote against someone as well as for someone. In a two way race it boils down to the same thing, but if you have more than two people, it opens doors to interesting possibilities. In the GOP case, it could have been, "I vote for X, but I am ok with anyone but Y". This would have added one vote to X and taken one away from Y. Aside from being a fairer system, it would also be more amusing as some candidates would end up with negative votes :D Then again, I also think federal elections should be decided by popular votes across the whole country. The current system is vestige of a time that we could not count all the votes efficiently.
