You have to remember that the Bernie supporters, unlike Hillary supporters, came from all different parties and no party at all. A lot of those I'm willing to bet are not real Democrats per se, and do not represent his views. Hillary had nothing but solid Democrats. And pretty much the entire Democratic machine.

The parallel that I can think of, was during our counter culture days in the 60s. The majority of us were clean, honest, decent intelligent people trying to right the wrongs of a primitive social system that allowed for segregation, gender inequality and abuse of the gay community and an immoral war. Our goals were to correct those things and we fought for them with all our heart.

But we were also outcasts in a sense, and because we were an eclectic group we had lots of other social outcasts like the SDS, the Hells Angels and the communists who we thought were all crazy, but the mainstream media and much of America tagged us with them.

Bernie has little control over them. And he said early on he would not run in a third party and be a spoiler like Stein is.
I think the deal with Bernie is the same thing. I think Bernie Sanders is a decent man that has lived a righteous life I will leave this earth better than he found it.
