With only a dozen IT architects, I managed the IT architecture of a company with over 40k workers and operations in every continent. Not too long ago this would have required 10x as many staff. And the reduction did not end there. They are in the middle of axing, nearly every IT infrastructure and support position they have, because technology allows them to do so much more with so much less. But it is not limited to IT. Consider how drone operations have reduced the need for air force pilots. It will be a snowball effect, because fewer pilots also means fewer trainers, fewer jet fighters, etc. I can make similar example in virtually every industry. I have been in high tech since I was in middle school and I still find the pace of change dizzying.

You will not see it for a while. It will creep under the surface until a tipping point then the dominoes start to fall. So the pilots are safe for now. As are the doctors, and the waiters and cab drivers. But in about 10 years, all of them will be feeling the pinch along with every other profession. And then you will see real change in the politics of both parties.

BTW, this is not just my opinion. People who have high enough perspective, from Bill Gates to Mohamed el Erian to a slew other billionaire businessmen will tell you the same thing.
