If we look at history it is clear that humans are incapable of successfully governing themselves at the sovereign nation level for more than hundreds of years, and most much less than that. One of the reasons that artificial intelligence is so dangerous to humans is that as the computers learn more and more it won't be difficult for them to determine that we are too dangerous to be allowed to govern ourselves. Of course that might be a positive for the planet over all. Too soon to tell.
