thanks for the article. It was very informative. IDC's estimate of $2 Billion in revenue is probably more accurate than Dataquest. The data is from 1996 sales. Intel's plant in Oregon is cranking out more Pentium Pro and Pentium II motherboards than ever. That's because the Slot 1 is such a difficult platform to work with. Nobody wants to touch it. Intel is marketing these Pentium II motherboards through Compaq, Packard Bell, Gateway and Dell. I would estimate their Pentium II motherboard sales alone were 8 million units in 1997, putting their motherboard sales at over $3.5 Billion in 1997 and probably closer to 40 - 45% of the market.
