pc sales will not slow... but stock price is dif. cpq and dell can crash w/o pc sales slowing or margins going down. if cpq margins can increase 25% with the price of pc's dropping 50% then another 30% drop in pc prices isn't going to decrease margins. we are stuck with pc's going from 80mm this yr to 92-94mm next yr. for every 1 pc asia doesn't order europe will order 2 extra pcs. I'm right in the middle of this Info. technology revolution. we are stuck, we have to retool and order more and more pcs. we will also order a ton of 100-300k servers and even more of the 30-100k servers. A world wide war that shuts down the entire economies of the world is the only thing that stops it. the fareast currency problem doesn't stp it. that just lowers the cost of mat'ls that go into pcs. and Korea and japan were so cosed to cpq and dell that if they sold zero pcs in those countires for 1998 I say " good riddance". the 100,000 pcs that they sold in those countries could be sold in europe easily,or china or india or australia. cpq and dell will probably grow 40-50% unit wise in 1998. even though the market will grow 15%. This is worst case. they could easily grow 50-60%. thats 4 times the avg. they do that all the time, so why not 1998. just about every analsyt agrees that pcs are going to big 4 . cpq,dell,hp,ibm. these will continue to get more and more of the share and the others will go bankrupt. all your concerns were voiced in 4th qtr of 1995,1996,1997. they didn't play then and don't playn now, but in the 4q98 you can voice them again.
