Globe says Lesiak maintains Silver Wheaton at "buy"

The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Aug. 4, edition that Canaccord analyst Tony Lesiak says the third time is a charm for Silver Wheaton ($37.92) at the Salobo mine. The Globe's David Leeder writes that on Tuesday, Silver Wheaton announced the acquisition of an additional 25-per-cent interest in the gold production from the Vale mine for $800-million (U.S.) in cash. Mr. Lesiak reiterated his "buy" call, while raising his share target to $44 from $39.50. Analysts on average target the shares at $36.18. Mr. Lesiak says in a note: "We view the transaction favourably given the deal accretion and improved economics, the world class nature of the deposit and the operating strength of the counterparty. We also believe that an ultimate expansion of Salobo to 48Mtpa [million tons per annum] is probable given the larger reserve/resource base at Salobo and now additional funding from SLW. The downside would be increased concentration with Salobo now representing 32 per cent of SLW's operating NAV [net asset value]. The stream also now represents 30 per cent of the mine's economics which is elevated but not aggressively so and Vale is still incentivised to expand output."
