Don't forget shorts covering for tax purposes. With the stock shooting up in early December, I suspect that the short interest for this month is significantly higher than the 22K for November. And with the big move for today starting after 2pm E, short covering alone could have easily brought the stock up to the closing price.
Just MHO.
