Minieres Du Nord, Pangea Report Gold Find At Lafontaine
Dow Jones News Service ~ September 26, 1996 ~ 4:10 pm EST
MONTREAL (Dow Jones)--Explorations Minieres du Nord Ltd. (M.MDN) and Pangea Goldfields Inc. (T.PGD) said they have discovered an auriferous zone on their Lafontaine gold property in Ontario.
In a news release, the companies said stripping has exposed a 400-meter long by 10-meter wide ''gold bearing folded iron formation hosting semi-massive pyrite, pyrrothite, arsenopyrite, along with numerous quartz veins.''
The zone is open in all directions, they added.
The discovery occurs in the center of the Lafontaine property, which is in the Beardmore-Geraldton area of northern Ontario.
The companies said preliminary results obtained from surface samples taken in order to determine the gold hosting sulphide (pyrite, pyrrothite, arsenopyrite) confirms the presence of gold over the entire length of the stripped iron formation. Gold values range between 2.2 grams per metric ton and 3.6 grams per tonne.
Higher gold values were obtained from two other auriferous zones to the east and west, respectively, of the first discovery.
The three auriferous zones occur within folded iron formations, and are aligned along the same axis, within the center of the property, the companies said.
They said Minieres du Nord will start a drilling program on Sept. 30 in order to investigate the three zones.
Pangea and Minieres du Nord are Canadian mineral exploration companies.
