We are not even close to needing storage on the vast majority of grids in the U.S

Because on the vast majority of grids solar is a fairly minor source of power. Make it (or it and wind combined) dominate like you seem to want and you would need a vast amount of storage (or an acceptance for brownouts and blackouts).

You can get by without storage if solar and wind are niche sources, even large niches, but then the electricity they produce is worth less then other electricity. It can't be relied on. It drives out other sources of energy because of requirements that it be used, subsidies and tax breaks for using it or building it, etc.

Oh, it's very relevant.

No it isn't. Or at least hardly at all. Having a solar setup in your house will not provide you with any information about EROI. You can have solar and read about it, but you can not have solar and read about it.

Just Googling stuff will not provide you with all the necessary information.

It will provide a lot more then having a solar installation will. If your personal experience was running a utility that is installing solar, ok that's going to give you a lot of relevant information. Not so much having some contractor install them for your house.
