While institutional sponsorship is a stock is generally considered a positive, excessively high intstitutional ownership is generally considered to be a negative. The same is even more true for insider ownership. For large cap stocks trading at high prices, I would tend to think that institutional sponsorship might be higher.

For smaller companies with thin floats, look out for high institutional sponsorships.

Wayde.
