8/12/16 Contest update
Back from a relaxing trip to Pt. Reyes but, unfortunately, too foggy to see the Perseid shower. Hope others were able to enjoy the show.
Meanwhile, biotechs also had a foggy week. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -22.86% YTD (vs. down -20.32% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -13.55% YTD (vs. down -12.12% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -11.01% YTD (vs. down -8.64% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 4.50% YTD (vs. up 4.27% YTD a week ago).
DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 21.56% YTD, had another outstanding week and is still our leader. MASTER’s portfolio, up 13.89% YTD, remained in second place and JBOG’s portfolio, up 8.13% YTD, held on to third place.
At Friday’s close, just 4 of the 58 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 15 beating the NBI and 13 beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -16.51% and a median YTD loss of -23.94%, with 57 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: I haven’t yet seen the share price for the BIND buyout by Pfizer. So I’ll wait until the price is set before I reallocate the cash. If anyone spots the final per share price, please post it. BIND was held in two portfolios, DLU & PGO.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Hope you all had a fine summer weekend biotechies.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
