Absolutely.

A totally free market act. Free markets doing what they do. He understood it better than anyone. If you want your assembly line to work without stoppages so you can build thousands of cars a day, you have to pay your people enough to make them want to work.

There was no government bureau telling him to do it. There was no union demanding higher pay.

Free market economics told him that if he wanted a line of workers out the door waiting to get jobs, he needed to pay them more and give them a better work environment.

The worst thing to ever happen to the US auto business was unions. And Ford fought them to the end.
