This turns out to have been a really good Olympics for us, both in T&F, and in everything else. We aren't as dominant in T&F as when I was young, but President Trump can fix most of that by dropping a small nuke on Jamaica. We aren't sweeping events like I think I remember us doing, but our women certainly have improved, and this was prolly the best all-around middle and long distance team we've ever had. We've lost some dominance in swimming, mainly cuz they only allow 2 swimmers/country. Maybe Trump can re-negotiate that. i'm still not bored with winning.
Part of this year's results was cuz of the limited participation of Russia, but that's not as meaningful as it was in the past. The USSR is now 10 or 15 competing nation. Yugoslavia is now Serbia vs Croatia in water polo finals, plus Macedonia and Bosnia, and Czechoslovakia is now 2 countries. Only East Germany has disappeared. We used to get medals in track, swimming, hoops, boxing, and that's about it. This time, almost everything, from archery to fencing to shooting. |
