I believe we have discussed the possibility of lithography tool manufacturers being limited by suitable optical quartz. Here is a link detailing a Japanese chemical company's plans to build a $70 million quartz plant in Freemont, Texas, USA.

Was not someone saying that SVGI's latest MicraScan uses reflective optics and not quartz lenses? I wonder if some of the output of this plant will be sold here in the US or if it will all go back to Nikon and Cannon. Does anyone remember the name of the European optical quartz manufacurer? Do the stepper manufacturers actually make the lenses from the quartz blanks themselves, or do they buy the finished lenses from another vendor?
