ed-- CPQ was impacted by a multitude of things more than "manipulation by the big boys". The Asia thing --- direct impact is unrelated, media scare. The Japanese thing may have a greater real impact. The big split in 97 and a 2 for in 98 put more shares, forget dollar value, than some want to carry. Locking in of profits by all size investors, especially those funds trying to look better than they are and anyone with losses -- more so those individuals with losses over 3K. There are less long term investors in every issue, many are looking for the fast buck. The media keeps throwing the "sub" 1k out as a money loser. NO company would put a box out at a loss or for a 1% - 3% margin in a product whose technology changes almost daily. There are other reasons for the drop of 20 points from the high-- some industry specific and some due to the overall economy as presented by the media. As a trader, keeping CPQ in a core for margin purposes, all of the above change quickly and are important to all companies, at times more important than company specific "news".

Happy New Year!
John
