Setting up residence in Eureka in a 99 year old house, trying to establish organic gardens. It hasn't reached 70 degrees here yet and it is late August, so the tomatoes won't ripen. The Cherokee purples are still green, and the Indigo Rose cherry tomatoes are big enough, but hard as rocks. It looks like we'll have a large crop of the Purple de Milpa Tomatilloes. We have to get a greenhouse up before next spring, but that needs to start happening soon because the rainy season starts in the late October time frame.
The neighborhood has a big problem with feral cats so I joined in the fun of trapping and getting them fixed. I have a momma and her two kittens in the back room, but one of the kittens is loose. He is a white Tazmanian devil cat we call Patch because of a slight gray patch on his forehead. I got their mom taken care of Thursday, and brought her back home. She already owns me according to my stepdaughter. I didn't just want to turn her back out into the neighborhood, so I took steps to make friends with her. Yesterday she was rolling over onto her back for me to scratch her belly. not too shabby for a wild cat who has had two litters. (One of my neighbors told me they have been trying to catch her for over a year) She only weighed 5.77 pounds, so my decision to get some vittles into her and show her some kindness becomes obvious. At this point, I can handle her with my whole hand, and I think in a day or so, I'll be able to let her out of the big crate I still have her in. She purrs quickly, kneads my fingers with all four feet, love bites my fingertips, and licks me. Good signs!
Finding the loose one who is hiding successfully, has to happen today, since he has been without water almost two days. Not many places for the little beggar to hide in there, but the last time I found his hiding place, he was a banshee trying to escape the room, and I wasn't prepared.
So, retirement is Grand!
The political environment, not so much. Bernie was a bright light, but alas.
I'll be back over here more often. The sanity is really nice.
