What type of intelligence does it take to make money in speculation? The answer is cunning which can be defined as it was in the book "Cunning Intelligence in Greek Culture and Society" by Detienne and Vernant. From the introduction: "There is no doubt the metis (Greek for cunning) is a type of intelligence and of thought, a way of knowing; it implies a complex but very coherent body of mental attitudes and intellectual behavior which combine flair, wisdom, forethought, subtlety of mind, deception resourcefulness, vigilance, opportunism, various skills, and experience acquired over the years. It is applied to situations which are transient shifting, disconcerting and ambiguous, situations which do not lend themselves to precise measurement, exact calculation or rigorous logic." I believe the phrase "various skills" refers to techniques resulting from experience which have the aforementioned qualities. One aspect seems to be the ability to get into position ahead of events and be there for them. It would not surprise me if the evolution of intelligence itself comes down to this. The computer analog maybe "fuzzy logic" embedded into artificial intelligence systems. There is more to speculation than just trying to make some money.
