HAYZ
<<With all the talk about splitterless and DLS Lite and truckless-solutions, it should be an interesting year. Frankly, I think I'd put my money in treasuries before I'd face another long stretch of roller-coaster rides. Small money, sure, but not the big stuff.>>
Personally Pat I'm ready for the roller coaster. This time I'm selling everytime I got a little profit. Last time I kept averaging down. It worked out pretty well, but I sure realize I had a golden opportunity if only I hadn't clinched Amati shares like a terrier on a rat.
What's your investment opinion of HAYZ. I'm thinking it may be a good way to play the ALA deployment. Were you thinking maybe the same thing. Looks like SouthWestern/Pacific Bell is stepping into the starting blocks.
Be careful of those French gigolos Pat, :-) Steve

Atlanta, GA and Brussels, Belgium -- 9 June 1997 - Alcatel, in order to facilitate mass-market deployment of ADSL services, has taken another step forward by teaming with Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc. Hayes, pioneer in PC communications technology, and Alcatel, one of the world's leading telecommunications equipment manufacturers, today announced an agreement to manufacture and market products and equipment implementing ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) technology. These end-to-end ADSL solutions will enable consumers, telecommuters and small business users to achieve affordable, convenient, bandwidth-efficient, high-speed access to the Internet and other interactive services, such as corporate Intranets. The two companies did not disclose terms and conditions of the agreement.
Teaming a strong ADSL equipment provider (Alcatel) with a strong end-user technology provider (Hayes), the agreement enables consumers (both residential and business) to have an affordable and convenient means to "get on line" rapidly to multi-megabit services. Renowned for its ability to supply consumer solutions, Hayes plans to utilize its mass-merchant, retail and reseller channels to provide a wide range of affordable ADSL-related products and accessories.
Hayes will develop -- as its first collaborative product with Alcatel -- an internal ADSL modem, or network interface card (NIC), which operates inside a personal computer. Elegantly simple to install and use, and supporting Microsoft's Plug and Play, the new ADSL NIC will enable consumers to connect their computer to the existing telephone network. To configure their phone lines for broadband applications, consumers will be able to have the NIC card installed in their computers and have their local telephone company activate ADSL service.
"We commend Alcatel and Hayes for their efforts to establish clear consumer distribution channels for ADSL products," said Dr. David Kettler, executive director of Science and Technology for BellSouth. "This collaboration makes it easier for service providers to offer our customers communication devices for convenient high-bandwidth access to the Internet and other high-speed data applications."
