9/9/16 Contest update
This week North Korea’s Kim Jong-un banned sarcasm. Also this week the Supreme leader successfully tested a 10 kiloton nuclear warhead able to be delivered by a ballistic missile. I’m waiting for the nation’s top expert on leadership to reveal which of the two was intended to kill the biotech rally.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -24.53% YTD (vs. down -25.53% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -17.62% YTD (vs. down -17.10% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -12.90% YTD (vs. down -13.10% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 2.37% YTD (vs. up 4.84% YTD a week ago).
JBOG’s portfolio, up 14.23% YTD, took over first place pulling ahead of MASTER’s portfolio, up 12.40% YTD and now in second place. DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 8.85% YTD, held on to third place.
At Friday’s close, there were still only 4 of the 58 Contest portfolios in the green, with 19 portfolios beating the NBI and 11 beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -16.75% and a median YTD loss of -23.71%, with 55 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week, ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments:
1) As indicated in my prior post, I used the 9/2/16 close to allocate the proceeds of the RLYP buyout by Galencia for $32 per share. RLYP was held in 7 Contest portfolios.
2) SNSS did a 1-6 reverse split.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a fun weekend biotechies.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
