How could it be based on cdmaone or is95 ? In the center of the graphics as well as the bottom it says b-cdma. Just the term alone is trade marked by IDC and can't be used without their permission. IDC has made it clear that b-cdma operates in the 5 to 15mhz bandwidth. The consortium has already demonstrated data at isdn speed and there are four field trials to take place this year on four different continents. They will offer fixed service at first and then neighborhood roaming with eventual full mobility. How is-95 fits in this I don't know . One prior ceo of IDC was asked when Q was starting up if he thought cdma would work. He responded I hope it works otherwise what we are working on won't work. There are also some cross licensing between Q and IDC that we don't know about that was part of their agreement instead of going to trial. I beleive most of these technologies will be around longer than most feel. Anything new such as wcdma, bcdma or cdmaone will all attempt to be backward compatible if possible. Long ago I have heard of the possibilty of gluing cdma spectrum together to make it wider but we won't know if it's possible until more comes out on these issues. I'm sure ericy isn't lying about their wcdma and must have something else beside their word to convice the others who supported them in the first vote.
No matter which way 3g goes the month ahead will be interesting before and after the final vote. At this point it looks good to bet both sides of the coin.
