H2S is around 100 times as poisonous as CO, but it smells so bad that you get warned. Whole herds of cattle got killed out west when they had sour gas blows. Fortuneately it is so reactive that a respirator gets it easy(with a reactive to H2S cartridge) and also unfortuneatelt it can get you through a respirator if the concentration is high enough so that a lethal amount gets through even after 99.9% is removed/reacted.

Deep subsurface CO2 has killed large numbers in Africa. It seeps from the rock at depths of a few hundred feet, and dissolves, and because it is denser when carbonated it stays down there and builds up. When a supersaturation release happens, the bubble make it rise and drag all the rest up, and the whole lake vents in 1-2 minutes, with 99% of the CO2 forming a cloud that then runs down hill axphxiating mane or beast in the path.
It does not happen here as the max density cycle in water at 4C make a circulation that releases the CO2 gradually.

Some African lakes are now stripped by deep 6" plastic pipes down to the bottom. They have a small plastic line down the outside. and you run some compressed air down to the deepes point to start it. This makes it bubble to the surface inside the pipe, and once you start it you do not need the air any more. It keeps running, venting the CO2 slowly and when there is no longer enough to come out os solution to keep the density driven cycle going, it stops.
