so we agree that it is a tedious, boring task, that could lead you into hot water.. your example of the downdraft in a stock can leave you out of the mix.. look at oxhp and it's fall if one held those certs.. and couldn't pull the trigger.. away from home, on business etc..
one takes away the convience of online/phone trading.. and the advantage of getting a good price.. i would gander to say that not all phone brokers would be able to execute a trade for shares you bought and paid for let's say thru datek.. and then took certs.. you would have to have the margin in your account to sell short and then cover by delivering your stocks..
just a pain in the azz and no real substantial reward for you, especially if you lose the certs, or they are somehow damaged or destroyed.. or you die and your spouse/children... don;'t know what they have..
a friend of mine was cleaning out his neighbors house for as the 80 year old husband had died.. the wife was older and in poor shape.. he found 312,000 worth of ww2 bonds in the husbands name.. plus scores of worthless old uncancelled stock certs..
these were forgotten valuables, that could have gone out in the trash..
anyway.. be well.. will be on tomorrow.
