Duterte's full statement started with a hypothetical, [paraphrasing] "If the President lectures me about ... I'll call him a son of a whore ..." He was baiting and challenging the President, but the media couldn't see before the "son of a whore" portion. So the U.S. viewers didn't get the whole story. Duterte did not make the statement people think he made, unless it is in context.
