Much of what you posed has nothing to do with Trump. He is not is not any way responsible for what David Duke decides to do or not do. What David Duke does is up to him it is a free country. The constitution is there to guarantee the rights of all. Even your rights to attempt to drive the Country toward Socialism. One step away from Communism which people criticize Putin for being.

On the reference to shake and shingles. They are considered a softwood and were never included in NAFTA. At present there is no duty or tariff agreement in place for softwoods entering the US from Canada. The previous agreement was negotiated between G W Bush and Stephen Harper Both conservatives, and was extended as is by agreement between Obama and Harper. It expired last Oct 11th and may or may not be renewed as is.

The tariffs placed on Canadian lumber imports under the Softwood lumber agreement accomplished three things.
It made lumber from Canada more expensive to American home builders there by raising the cost to American home buyers.
Secondly it encouraged the seeking of other markets by Canadian producers to the extent that the Orient now buys more lumber from Canada than the US. Restricting the availability of lower cost Canadian lumber to US buyers also driving price.

Third: Canada has the most technological and efficient lumber producers in the world. This efficiency has resulted in them also being the worlds largest producers.

To combat the tariff situation Canadian producers went on an expansion program purchasing sawmill companies in the US. On the west coast and particularly in the S. Eastern states. and are continuing to do so to the extent Canadian lumber companies are closing in on 20% of lumber production. That is also giving Canada a voice on the US side as well as Canada when new negotiations take place. As the purchase more lumber firms that voice only gets stronger.

So in retrospect some times these trade deals instigate results that were not intended and really did no real good. In my opinion there is no better system or replacement for supply and demand of a free market.

The resource industry Oil, Gas, Mining and Lumber makes up well over 50% of the British Columbian economy.

Another export BC has is Electricity from the Giant electrical dams, which has been sold for decades without tariffs or complaints into the US. California in particular. A mistake on the part of our politicians in my view. They should have kept the power in BC and gave it away free to companies who were willing to build their factories north of the border creating unlimited jobs for Canadian workers and immigrants who migrate to make Canada their home.
Cheers
