PX,
I do not believe speech recognition software will become a "killer app". Quite simply, audio input does not complement the office environment. Audio input requires privacy and most computers are located in semi-private or open areas.
A limited audio interface (on, off, merge, open, etc.)will certainly become a standard feature of future operating systems but will not require a massive amount of storage capacity. Processor speed, yes.

Speech recognition software, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, are impressive and useful but not the universal killer I am looking for.

By the way, how close are we getting to the physical limitations of the magnetic effect? How many bits per sq. inch is even theoretically possible?
