I did a wireless network by buying:
1) A network card - "3COM EtherLink III" $120 last yr (good ones allow multi tasking so you can syncronise your files on the portable while working on the big PC - very good feature)
2) ethernet cable - $10
3) HP NetBeamIR - $200?? if you can still get them. Not sure we are making them still... You might be able to order one of these from HP direct. Try the www.hp.com ??

Setup allows me to network the CD ROM on my big PC so it saved buying a PCMCIA CD ROM for my subnotebook (HP Omnibook 600C)

No instructions were available. I just experimented. Used NetBuoy Protocol.

There are "Dongle's" out there that will connect your PC to a notebook via IR and they work pretty well I am told. Try the company "Extended Systems" for the dongle or do a search for "IrDA Association" for more information.

or email me at work after the 6th and I can point you to more sites
kirk@hpoclrf.sj.hp.com I should know more about the dongles in a few weeks. The software in Windows95 is SO BAD for supporting IrDA that people are doing work-a-rounds until W98 hopefully fixes alot of bugs...Jeeze, uSoft never considered that someone might want to walk away from a network connection and later reconnect. 8)

good Luck!
