FWIW, I think Jill does a HORRIBLE job of managing these threads and aside from a courteous "thank you" for restoring Zeev, NO other gratitude is warranted or necessary. Frame the question this way: WHY should we be THANKING someone for un-doing something which NEVER should have been done in the first place? Jill is undoubtedly a competent person at the TECHNICAL aspects of managing a Web site, but she is TOTALLY lacking in the intelligence, education, wisdom, or maturity required to make objective value judgements about the human interaction that takes place on these threads. Gauche, uncouth vulgarians are permitted to run amok unfettered, yet someone such as Zeev is framed by a dastardly despot, disappears, and is brought back only by our outpouring of entreaties! What's wrong with this picture? The proprietors of SI need to enlist the services of someone steeped in ethics and with the ability to make decisions concerning the appropriate limits of human behaviour. A retired judge might be such a person; it is NOT Jill, the Webmistress. A copy of this thread message is being sent via e-mail to selected SI and also non-SI correspondents of mine, so that if I should pay with my SI life for having had the temerity to criticise its management, a record will have been preserved for posterity, and as evidence. |
