As I read it, it is saying that 32% of retail was sub 1000. Someone else said retail is about 50% of sales. So total sub 1000 would be about 16% of sales. Not too scary sounding.

Are you assuming that no direct sales are in sub-$1,000 category? I don't think that's a correct assumption. Just look back at links about the new $699 Compaq Presario based on 166 MHz Pentium MMX. It sells only through Computer Discount Warehouse - direct sales.

Any way you cut it retail/direct home/business, sub-$1,000 PCs are invading every category. Notebook computers have so far been immune, but my prediction is that by the end of '98, we will see sub-$1,000 notebook computers.
