9/23/16 Contest update Tobira or not Tobira? That is the question biotech bears must now ask themselves as they review their short positions. Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median had a decent week and was now down -15.26% YTD (vs. down -19.79% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -11.92% YTD (vs. down -13.81% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down a mere -2.99% YTD (vs. down -7.91% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 5.96% YTD (vs. up 4.74% YTD a week ago). Contest leader JBOG’s portfolio, up 33.82% YTD, had another excellent week, with DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 20.62% YTD, holding on to second place and BIOPLAY’s portfolio, up 13.92% YTD, getting a boost from ESPR & EXEL and taking third place . At Friday’s close, 8 of the 58 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 21 portfolios beating the NBI and 13 beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -9.12% and a median YTD loss of -19.46% (TBRA’s big jump pushing up the average much more than the median), with 69 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.
