hello roger.. i think that when the market does start to fall.. late january, february?
that the short thread people {myself included} should begin to accumulate some stocks.. not necc. the "special situatin" stocks, but some of the real producers that will go further..
in a bear market the baby is tossed out with the bathwater, and as shorts we kind of bludgeon the deadbeat dads..
i am starting to do research on these strong companies that are out of favor.. or beginning to become out of favor.. i do not like any of the carmakers- the asian damage will be severe to the auto industry.. prices drop and the bottom line for late '98 early 99 will be hurt, and this is definitely not a big topic of discussion here on si, we cannot begin to discuss the banks, lets just remember that many of our shorts the STORY didn't materialize, and while they may appear broken, the RISK lies within the fact that the blowoff tops can crush a short for being right too early..
I will not be long any company that fundamentals COULD be adversely affected by the delayed/residual impact from asia.
I expect the money to flow back into the markets as there is nowhere for the herd to run to now..
but when they fall it will be heard around the world.. we have some time left.. IMO..
