Re: Office environment unfriendly to AUI; Magentic effect

Thanks for your input.

Others with whom I have discussed AUI have also raised this reasonable objection.

As my rebuttal, consider the telephone. Fifty years ago, we did not have telephones on every desk for every employee, and opponents may have raised a similar privacy objection. The sheer usefulness of the telephone has made it ubiquitous, and I believe that similiarly, the sheer usefulness of AUI technologies such as transcription will create the same result.

I've worked with the Dragon product, among other products. Note that it works best with a headset/boom microphone with raises the signal-to-noise by bringing the microphone near your mouth.

With respect to CPU speed, -any- form of AUI requires tremendous processing power. I also think that the "pattern libraries" required by significant AUI interfaces and applications will be major drivers of storage demand, both on the desktop and in network servers.

Regarding the physical limitations of magnetic storage, I am not an expert. Perhaps Mr. G. Mauersberger can answer that for us? My only comment here is that today's apparent limitations are tomorrow's been-there-done-that e.g. 28.8kbps modems.
