Apple has indeed had a much larger role in personal computing history than one would gather solely from my single mention.

I think it was a result of a confusion on my part of the term "PC" which nowdays we use to refer to desktop computers as distinct from Macs.

However Apples and Macs are obviously personal computers with similar implications, which your comment gently pushed me to recognize.

As a matter of fact, I wonder if Apple may even be able to save themselves by engineering the first fully functional AUI and application suite for the MacOS -- I'd give them better odds at doing a good job of it than Microsoft, which always seems to require at least 3 iterations of a product to arrive at something useful. I've always been amazed and frustrated how a giant shop like MS, purportedly employing legions of the best software development talent, consistently cranks out complete crap in the first few releases.
