Looks like time to learn Arduino (to make the cat sprayer).
Make magazine had a how-to article on that last year.

I heard that hot pepper powder on the lawn helps also.
Motivation to grow some ghost peppers or go to a Korean/Chinese store where they have huge bags of dried pepper powder.
Mean? What do you mean - it's all natural!

I am tempted to try that to keep the dogs off also.

But yes, fences help.

I had cat infestations* which have all but vanished in the back yard when I switched from a wood fence to plastic. No t sure why plastic worked, maybe too slippery for the snowflakes.

Rodent populations have not increased AFAIK.

*- infestations? cute kitties? yeah, infestation when they start breeding in every nook and cranny, dig up the vegetables, piss on everything and look at you like "why are you in MY yard?"
