Actually, the janitors are gone too.

No pay raise. I work off of a grant from NSF and Michigan State, the comptroller of the money, determines my monthly insult. Raises come in August, if any. Only those working directly for the Feds received a raise. Fermi is operated by a contractor to DOE, University Research Associates (URA, not to be confused with Associated Universities, the guys who just lost the Brookhaven contract under dubious circumstances.) Michigan State is both part of URA and the DZero collaboration, where I work. Our grant from NSF covers work on DZero and Atlas (a CERN LHC experiment).

On the other hand to this issue, when Hazel O'Leary froze DOE and contractor salaries in 1993, all DOE and URA employees were affected, but not us graduate students. I guess a 3% raise from nil was still nil.

Figured out the money flow yet? Sometimes I find that analyzing corporate cash flows is easier than finding out where my paycheck comes from ;-)
