Happy New Year, Averill! It's decisions like these that need to be pondered over a good glass of well-aged liqueur and I have just the drink for you. On our honeymoon, which began exactly twenty years ago today, we visited L'Abb‚ Barbancourt in Haiti and purchased several bottles of unusual liqueurs. In the cabinet, we still have one- a Spice Rum Liqueur. Every year, Dan pulls it out and says, "Should we open it?" and every year, we look at the odd cloudy appearance and the stuff floating around in it and go, "Nawwww," but we haven't the heart to throw it out. I like your idea of a pilgrimage. Maybe we should take another cruise and as we sail by Haiti, stand in the bow and pour it upon the waters, but I fear it might destroy marine life for miles around and cause an international incident. I guess we'll continue pulling it out year after year until it explodes or dries up or whatever these things do. It was cheap to begin with. And that last sentence with its dangling preposition reminds me to refer you to a new thread on Grammar and English. I know you write well and enjoy words and you might like to check it out. |
