*Austerity has no credibility as economic policy.* The national debt after WWII was a little worse than it is today (compared to GDP). That debt was rapidly paid off by austerity. Why cannot we do that today? Only reason that I can think of is that we are not as tough as our parents. Our nation now does not have that much guts. We have become, on average, a bunch of whiny babies.
