Not exactly. Sure, if you're buying a stock and it goes down you're buying power goes down due your loss decreasing you margins, BUT the price at which you buys goes down as well.

Thus the damage isn't as severe for a long, if his/her trade goes bad, as it is for a short.

And remember, the long can continue to buy as long as he can afford it, unlike a short who has to rely on availability as well.
