What has failed is the GOP leadership to prove that its pursuit of austerity has done anything except depress the economy. If you have a problem with net income and wealth being as low as it is, take it up with a) employers who have created an environment that deliberately depresses wages and b) the GOP that has blocked legislation designed to put people to work in a number of sectors, infrastructure chief among them, and has done everything in its power to elevate capital and screw over the American worker.
