I don't think that sub $1,000 machines are invading business, and certainly not large business with corporate networks. That said, however, the impact of price reductions has been felt everywhere, and the systems that the large business are buying are probably down 40% from what they sold for a year ago -- so, even if they are not sub $1,000, they are now $1,200 to $1,800 vs. $1,800 to $2,500 a year ago.
It's also worth keeping in mind just how much price reductions in memory and disk drives have contributed, my guess is that combined these are actually greater than the drop in CPU prices. |
