The Iranian army deposed the unelected Mossadegh because they didn't want to end up a Soviet satellite state. The US had no troops in the country, for that matter did the US. I'm sure they encouraged his overthrow. So what? He was a bad guy. Could have turned out to be another villainous Castro or Kim Il Sung or Pol Pot. You want to know who really modernized and secularized the country? The Shah that liberals revile. We did no less in Cuba & especially Vietnam. Ho Chi Min was a nationalist first Castro and Ho Chi Minh were always Marxists who set their country back decades. That's the historical truth.
