If VSGN were swallowed by a big fish such as ORCL,CA or IBM the only player in this market segment would be IONA

That was my point: what exactly is the difference - in market terms - between VSGN being swallowed by Borland or a "big fish"? Why would companies looking for an ORB to OEM think that Borland is any different to one of the "big fish"? They would still be regarded as a competitor.

I would be surprised - scratch that, I would be astounded - if IONA were not callimg on every single one of VSGN's customer base, pitching this story. Meanwhile, IONA has more experience in "enterprise" development than Visigenic and Borland combined.

VSGN/BORL team would eventually become the "standard" and the force to compete with MSFT DCOM

For this to occur, two things must happen. Visibroker must become "ORB of choice", and Borland has to reverse its current strategy. I doubt the first will happen, as you know. And for the second, I believe Borland is stuck with the self-image of becoming The Enterprise Development Toolset Company, which effectively works against the first objective, "ORB of choice".

I object to the actual aquisition price

Presumably from a VSGN point of view?
