I don't know what to make of this; is it correct or an example of the educational morass in which our children flounder? WriteSource 2000, a very popular English handbook used in schools today, has this to say:

Adding an 's-
The plurals of symbols, letters, figures and words discussed as words are formed by adding an apostrophe and an s.

Would that include things like VCRs?
