I'm a bit put out that so many media folks are claiming our elections can't be 'rigged.' Not that I have any use for
Trump at all, but all one has to do is look at Florida in 2000, Ohio in 2004 and Illinois and Texas in 1960.
The difference of course is Trump's rhetoric which could cause widespread civil unrest if the race is close.
Anyway am I wrong?

In 2000, when the Supreme Court called a halt to the Florida recount, Bush won with 217 electoral votes to Al Gore's 266.Florida's 25 electoral votes would have put Al Gore over the top. Florida's Republican Secretary of State, Kathleen Harris purged thousands of voters from the rolls. Most of the voters Harris blocked were African-American. In several Democratic precincts the polls were closed early, leaving lines of would-be voters stranded. Gore led by over half a million nationwide votes.

And in Ohio in 2004, urban voters in low income areas were forced to stand in line for six or more hours because not enough voting machines were provided and a bunch more wouldn't work. Many of those voters gave up and went home. Bush won Ohio by 2.1% and got Ohio's 20 electoral votes for the win. That fiasco was presided over by another Republican Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell.

And John Kennedy won over Richard Nixon in 1960, but many journalists and historians believe that was with the help of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley who put Kennedy narrowly over the top in Illinois and from Lyndon Johnson in Texas where Kennedy also won narrowly.
Electoral votes from those two states would have given Nixon the win.

So to be clear, despite the histrionics of some media folks, election rigging is possible. But the most likely culprits will be state officials who have control over voter access and voting machine availability. Since there are far more Republican Secretaries of State than Democrats, the odds are higher the Republicans will meddle, than Democrats. Just look at Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004.
