10/21/16 Contest update
Nasty short-sellers continued to rig our Contest making it another underwater week for the portfolios.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -24.67% YTD (vs. down -23.17% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -20.89% YTD (vs. down -21.40% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -14.99% YTD (vs. down -15.37% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 4.99% YTD (vs. up 4.13% YTD a week ago).
DNAJOE’s portfolio, up 28.54% YTD, and JBOG’s portfolio, up 16.22% YTD, held on to first and second place, with STEVEL’s portfolio, up 8.24% YTD, still in third place.
At Friday’s close, only 5 of the 58 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 24 portfolios beating the NBI and 20 still beating the SPSIBI. The 223 Contest stock picks had an average YTD loss of -16.17% and a median YTD loss of -25.50%, with just 54 of the 223 Contest portfolio stocks up for the year.

Portfolio adjustments:
1) XOMA did 1-20 reverse split.
2) CYNA buyout for $40.50 by Sunovion. I used 10/21/16 closing prices for reallocation. CYNA only held in ALIAS portfolio.
