Why I am a liberal Democrat..

Not one single liberal voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Every vote for that act came from conservatives and maybe a few moderates.

The 1964 Civil Rights Act was going to outlaw segregation. Segregation, one of most barbaric aspects of any society. It is prehistoric barbarism comparable to things like torture and slavery.

And yet, virtually every conservative and a few moderates, I think, fought like the Dickens to sustain segregation in the south. They wanted to keep the races segregated. That was a barbaric idea.

So how could I ever support that kind of thinking? How can anyone?
